2010-01-10 01:35:00 Happy New Year
It's a bit late, but happy new year everyone, I hope it's started off positively for you too.

My holiday break was great, except for being too short. And spending most of new year's day recovering from the evening's celebrations didn't help... oh well.

On the positive side, the road trip before xmas went very well with only the failed central locking on the Esprit causing problems. And as well as finding time to disassemble that to see if I can diagnose it, we found time over the break to take our MythTV system apart and completely rebuild it with new tuner dongles and Freeview support.
2009-11-22 22:19:49 Time for a holiday.
I just got the Esprit back from its six-monthly checkup, and apart from a the persistent leak in the clutch master cylinder and the sudden failure of the central locking system, it's in great health. So, time to plan a little drive somewhere to take advantage of work closing a week early for the holidays.

Before then though, FurcoNZ next weekend and MiDFur the weekend after. Yay!

Yay for less crappy weather.

Stuff has been happening. First, Beervana at the end of August was an amazing event. I regret only having tickets to one session as there were far too many beers to sample discussion panels to attend to cover everything in only 4 hours. Still, I got to try some really interesting beers: highlights were oak-aged Epic Armageddon, Emmersons Clam Stout, Twisted Hop IPA, Mike's Whiskey Porter and Yeastie Boys His Majesty 2009.

Also that weekend, finally upgraded the server at ACS that runs furry.org.nz to Debian 5.0, which went smoothly except for the new kernel refusing to load. After much fiddling around, I reverted the boot kernel back to 2.6.18 and it came up again looking fairly happy. Not quite the success I'd hoped for, as I was looking forward to the better IPv6 support in 2.6.26, but the newer system is still nice. We also took the opportunity to renumber the IPv6 interface anyway, which turned out to break more configuration than the system upgrade did, but was great to get sorted out.

Finally, more hardware changes at home too. The old dual Athlon MP file server that was starting to get unreliable has been replaced with a dual Opteron 248 system in a shiny 3U case that will be much easier to work on now it's up and running. Next project now, a MythTV system that works with FreeView!
